Oak Tree: Red Oak

The Red Oak tree is a rounded, broad spreading tree with an often irregular crown.

  • Dark green leaves have sharply pointed lobes
  • Insignificant flowers are then followed by acorns
  • Foliage will turn a red/brown in the fall

Features:

Color: Deep red or yellow in Fall
Height: 40-60 ft tall & 40ft wide
Sun Preference: Full sun
Soil: Acidic, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, silty loam, well-drained and clay soils. It prefers wet soil conditions but has slight drought tolerance.
Plant Characteristics: Attracts squirrels, butterflies, deer, Grows in an oval, rounded, upright or erect shape. Can be toxic to horses if dry, wilted leaves are consumed.
